How old are CCLS' shipping containers?

The vast majority of our containers will have served for around 15yrs on the decks of ships carrying cargo across the seas. They may have minor surface rusts resulting from the long term exposure to the harsh conditions at sea, but they will still be as structurally sound as they were when new.

What is the expected life of a shipping container?

Shipping containers are very well built and ones subjected to a full life at sea may last for up to 25 years. A new shipping container put directly into storage use could be expected to last up to 50 years or more, as storage is unlikely to subject a shipping container to the rigours of sea transport with cargo. It goes without saying that this would depend on many factors such as the type of use they are subject to or whether the original structure or paint work has been compromised as a result of modifications. A used container will last less time because it will already have had a life at sea and in transport but they will still give very good service and there is no reason why a good standard used container cannot last upwards of 20 years, maybe longer if well taken care of. Life expectancy of a used container will largely be determined by the condition of the doors and the roof. A container’s storage condition will also determine its life expectancy.

Do you sell brand new (one way) containers?

For now we do not actively sell new containers but can arrange these when specially requested.

Can you buy back containers?

Yes we can. However, when we quote a buy-back price, we have to consider transport costs and the duration of time the container will be in storage with us before re-sale. The condition of the container will also be considered. There may be occasions when we are unable to buy-back due to location and costs of transporting the containers back to our yard.

Can you deliver nationally?

Yes we can. We can arrange delivery to any location within Nigeria.

Do you modify shipping containers?

We do not modify shipping containers, but we work closely with companies that do and would be willing to recommend such.
